In August of 2016, the R.O.C. government proposed The New Southbound Policy to strengthen bonds between Taiwan, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, South Asian countries, New Zealand, and Australia. Through economic collaboration, people-to-people exchange, resource sharing, and regional links, the New Southbound Policy aims to create a mutually beneficial model with R.O.C.’s surrounding countries. Not only does the New Southbound Policy encourages overseas investments and engage in local activities, the policy also welcomes foreign tourism, business, and academic interactions. Yet, with the increase of international travelers, so elevates the risk of infectious diseases. In August of 2018, the New Southbound Health Center was established by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and National Taiwan University Hospital to provide health services and prevent infirmity among New Southbound travelers.
